When people talk about the Skagen painters, then they often think of the motifs of women on the beach painted by Michael Ancher or
P. S. Krøyer. They see in their mind’s eye special light and the summer atmosphere of Skagen, which are often captured in the paintings and the golden frames that surround them.
Art Museums of Skagen had just acquired a new logo and design profile concurrently with the reopening of the main museum and a new extension, which also housed the museum shop. There was a desire to rebrand the museum with the new profile and to create souvenirs that avoided the most obvious and stereotype Skagen motifs. The museum reopened with a special exhibition of Thorvald Bindesbøll’s ceramic works, and in that connection created a series of graphic patterns inspired by Bindesbøll. We have used these in part of the collection.
soSouvenir’s merchandise for Art Museums of Skagen is designed to capture the light and the atmosphere of the museum’s collection. We also had to be loyal to the past in our choice of colours, materials and packaging. Visitors should also be able to use the merchandise on a trip to the beach, whatever the weather. The result is a collection with the aesthetics of the Golden Age given a modern twist, appealing to today’s guests of the museum.
